From Campaign to Outcome: Building Better Local Attribution

Impressions and clicks are not enough for executive decision-making. A better attribution model connects campaigns to business outcomes.

OMNI principle: the goal is not to collect the most data. The goal is to make a better commercial decision with the least complexity necessary.

Define the conversion that matters

Before launching a campaign, decide whether success means a call, form, appointment, store visit, sale, membership or another outcome. Attribution is impossible when the outcome is undefined.

Build clean response paths

Dedicated landing pages, phone numbers, offer codes and campaign cohorts make performance easier to interpret. A campaign that sends everyone to a generic homepage creates unnecessary ambiguity.

Separate correlation from attribution

A customer appearing after a campaign does not automatically prove the campaign caused the outcome. Strong reporting distinguishes observed association from causal claims.

Use outcomes to change the next campaign

Attribution only matters if it changes a decision: geography, offer, creative, budget or audience strategy. Reporting should end with a recommendation.

The operating principle

Start small enough to measure. Learn what the market says. Then scale what works. The value of market intelligence is not how impressive the data looks; it is whether it improves the next business decision.
